Went to Poseidon on the Beach for our anniversary. It was recommended by a coworker. These were our takeaways. SERVICE: It was a rough start. We made reservations for 7:45pm to be outside and we didn't get sat down until around 8:10. They kept saying our table had been taken and were waiting for them to leave. Besides that our server was really good. She was attentive and checked in with us. FOOD: it was really good. The appetizer was okay, the hummus wasn't all that great in my opinion. Had the lamb and it was super soft. Wife had scallops, which she never does but wanted to try. LOVED them and she's not a seafood person. We were given a dessert for our special day and the crème brûlée. It's my wife's favorite dessert and she did t share. It was that good. The tres leches cake with coconut ice cream was out of this world! AMBIANCE: it was super nice. We got there a tad bit before the sun completely set. So we caught a bit of the sunsetting. But sitting outside was nice. The sound of the waves crashing and the dim lighting made it very romantic.

I have been going to The Poseidon for years on and off. I would say it is a staple restaurant for us San Diego and Del Mar residents it has one of the best if not the best patio dining experiences - with very generous portion sizes - the starters are amazing. I love and think the clams and the ceviche are the best in town and the price is good! Fantastic Land and Sea Bloody Mary- The service is always good and view is ALWAYS SPECTACULAR

Recently ordered take out on Sunday July 28. I went to the bar and ordered all the food no problem. The bartender was attentive and punctual with the food. When I got back to my room with the food everything was perfect. The food quality and the seafood is the best I have ever had. We also dine in and it has an outdoor area that is on the water. Gorgeous and breathtaking atmosphere. The serving staff goes above and beyond all our expectations! My family always eats at Poseidon for our yearly trip to Del Mar. It has become a special tradition for our family.

I made a reservation for a patio table for 3 and when we arrived early, our table wasn't ready yet...but we were able to atleast get a drink at the bar before hand. Once they had our table available, the hostess walked us out and seated us in the middle of the patio. I noticed a table by the window/beach was being cleared and cleaned up and the host told me that we could move over there once it was clean so we were happy. Well, two seconds later another party was seated there...I spent 5 minutes contemplating what we should do. It was my birthday and I specially made reservations at this restaurant because I wanted the view. I was hoping the hostess would come back with a solution or atleast an apology but she didn't so I went and spoke to her. She looked at my like a deer in headlights and when I said "I'm not sure if you saw, but another party was seated there..." she said yes, I saw... okay so were you just going to let it be and not even apologize for promising us something? It was annoying. Luckily, another table near the window opened up and our server moved us over right away. I can't remember her name but she was a sweet elderly lady. Much more accommodating than the hostess. We started with the calamari and the coconut shrimp. Bothe were basically but tasty. My husband ordered the pork chop and my bestie and I ordered the short ribs. All three entrees were huge and so fulfilling. My husband really enjoyed the pork chop. It was a perfect medium rare. My bestie and I loved our short rib and my husband even said he should've ordered the short rib after tasting a bite - hahahahaha. The beef was incredibly tender and flavorful. I really liked the carrots and mushrooms that were paired with mash potatoes. We all agreed that we wished the mash portion was a little bigger. It felt like the carb portion was small. Aside from the poor service at the start of our meal, the food really made up for it. The view is also incredible and really is the selling point of Poseidon.

Service: Busy but efficient and accommodating. Atmosphere: lovely and fun. Great location and friendly, lively. Enjoyed my dinner very much. Coming back in two weeks.

Food is expensive here and you're mainly here for the view (though the food is good). But I had a great experience today, and knew what I was paying for, so still happy to give five stars. Today was VERY HOT, so Del Mar was crazy crowded and it was hard to park. I was a little late and then one friend was late to get dropped off, and the last two people could not find parking and decided not to come. So I had reserved a prime beach-side patio table for 4 and we ended up being 2 people who were late. The waiter was still exceptionally nice and did not push me at all to order while I was waiting for my friends. I wish I got his name (tall, white, 30-something guy). I started with a mojito and the pistachio crusted brie. Both of them were four-stars; not must haves but refreshing. The brie is one of the better app values on the menu ($11). For entrees my friend got the avocado toast and I got the furikake ahi salad. I'd say four stars again for the ahi salad - not exceptional, but tasty and a healthy choice. Overall, once I got here, I had a fabulous time at one of my favorite treat spots, a place with the best combo of right-on-the-beach and food in San Diego. It's not cheap, but I appreciated very much how well we were treated even though we were half a table and late. I definitely will bring special guests here again or go myself when I am craving some time on the Poseidon patio, looking out at Del Mar Beach!
